The Upshot Six Nations Predictor

Six Nations game rules

Overview:

To play the Six Nations game, you will need to select the winning team, their margin of victory and a tryscorer in each match. 

The player with the most points from their predictions across the tournament wins the game.

Predictions and Scoring:

  • For each fixture you will need to predict the winner of each match, the margin of victory (i.e. if a team wins 17-10, the margin of victory will be 7 points) and a tryscorer.
  • You will score the following points for each winner and margin of victory prediction:

7 PTS - “CONVERTED TRY”

Predict the winner and the exact margin of victory

5 PTS - “TRY”

Predict the winner and within 5 pts of the margin of victory

3 PTS - “PENALTY”

Correctly predict the winner, but margin prediction not within 5 pts

0 PTS - “KNOCK ON”

Incorrectly predict the winner. NB - margin prediction irrelevant if winner is wrong

Examples: 

7 PTS

Your prediction: England to beat France by 6 - 10 points

Result: England 20 - France 13

Points: You correctly predicted the winner and got within the exact margin of victory of 7 points

 

5 PTS

Your prediction: England to beat France by 6 - 10 points

Result: England 27 - France 15

Points: You correctly predicted the winner and were within 5 points of the exact margin of victory of 12 points

 

3 PTS

Your prediction: England to beat France by 6 - 10 points

Result: England 24 - France 5

Points: You correctly predicted the winner, but not within 5 points of the exact margin of victory of 19 points

 

0 PTS

Your prediction: France to beat England by 7 points

Result: England 20 - France 13

Points: You didn’t correctly predict the winner so no points available

 

  • You will score the following points for each try scorer prediction:

7 PTS - “CONVERTED TRY”

Predict a player that will score a try in the match

0 PTS - “KNOCK ON”

Do not predict a player that scores a try in the match

General Game Rules

  • You will need to make your predictions for all the fixtures in each round before the first fixture starts - i.e. for the first round of fixtures on Fri 2nd Feb you will need to make your predictions for all three matches before the first match starts (20:00)
  • The winner will be the person with the highest amount of points at the end of the tournament
  • If players have the same total score, then the person closest to the tiebreaker answer will be used to determine who wins. If they have the same tiebreaker answer then a random draw will take place for the winner.
